Stamp Duty is a tax you might have to pay if you buy a residential property or a piece of land in England or Northern Ireland over a certain price. It will need to work out how much, if any Stamp Duty you are required to pay as part of the conveyancing process.
This tax applies to both freehold and leasehold properties - whether you're buying outright or with a mortgage.
If you're buying a property in England you will pay SDLT (Stamp Duty Land Tax), in Scotland, you will pay Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) and in Wales, Land Transaction Tax (LTT).
SDLT Check ensures that purchasers pay the right Stamp Duty. It is widely known that other online calculators do not take into account all of the relevant information to establish the correct SDLT, LBTT, or LTT. In recent years, purchasers have often overpaid, resulting in them being out of pocket, or in some underpaid, and have incurred fines and additional interest from HMRC after the transaction has completed.
